Most people can’t live without their mobile phones. It is a necessity and became a part of our system in our everyday life. In United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi, there are only two mobile service operators, Etisalat and Du. Visitors purchasing SIM card should be 18 years old and above and should provide a copy of their passport and visa, while residents should provide a valid Emirates ID/Passport/Labor Card. 

ETISALAT

For tourists, Etisalat offers Ahlan-Visitor’s Mobile Package at AED 60 having AED25 free credit upon line activation enjoying all the services. The plan is only valid for 90 days from the date of activation. You are also given 30 days grace period where you can only receive calls.

For residents, you can avail prepaid plan or wasel package at AED40 which includes 160minutes free talk time. There are 5 options for post-paid plans ranging from AED29 – AED 449 per month.

DU

Visitor’s mobile line connection fee is AED49 with free AED20 recharge card included. The line will be valid for 90 days from the date of first call. Subscriber is given 275 days grace period to renew the line. During the first 30days grace period, you can only receive calls and SMS, in the remaining days of the grace period, even incoming calls and SMS will already be cancelled.

Postpaid plans ranges from AED25-AED 2500 per month. Prepaid plan or the “Pay as you Go”, line activation is AED 55 with free AED 25 bonus credit.

Moblie Phones

Abu Dhabi is always updated with the latest models of mobile phones. The most popular and used models in the city are: Blackberry, iPhone and Samsung. You can buy phones in the nearest Etisalat or DU service centers, shopping malls, leading hypermarkets and electronic stores.
